General Overview
Teen Challenge Lakeland Girls Home is a fifteen (15) month,
forty (40) bed residential discipleship program. We are a member
of the Florida Association of Christian Child Caring Agencies (FACCCA).
Our program is a highly structured, disciplined program
emphasizing a relationship with Jesus Christ, respect for self,
and respect for others. The student residences, kitchen/dining
and school are in located in the 10,000 sq. ft. main center. We
have ample areas for physical activities, an inter-campus
athletic department, and a screened-in pool. We employ fifteen
(15) female team members, each with the appropriate education
and experience suited for their roles. Three of our single staff
live on campus in the main residential building.
Student life is comprised of four (4) areas of concentration:
Spiritual growth and scripture knowledge, academic achievement,
pastoral counseling and personal responsibility. Spiritual
growth is the very essence of Teen Challenge. This growth is
developed through church, chapel services, group and individual
studies. We make learning the truth of the Bible fun by using
creative teaching techniques. Our goal is to teach students how
to practically apply Biblical principles in their daily lives
Academics
Our school, The New Life Christian Academy, is a registered
private school with The State of Florida Department of
Education. We employee at least two (2) full-time teachers, not
including our Dean of Students. All school team members hold
Bachelors degrees in Education, English or Counseling. We
inspire our students to strive for academic achievement. Many
girls in our program not only aspire to be college students, but
also qualify for Bright Futures Scholarships to help them and
their families along the way.
Counseling
Pastoral counseling is accomplished with at least two (2)
individual one-on-one sessions per month and weekly small group
sessions with our pastoral counselors. Our head counselor has
over 30 years of experience working with young ladies and is
dedicated exclusively to counseling. Counseling assignments and
sessions are specifically tailored to the needs of each student.
Grad House
A unique aspect of our program is our Graduate House.
Students who graduate from the Teen Challenge program may reside
in our Graduate House while completing high school. This solves
a crucial need for parents to minimize the potential for old
problems to resurface if a child is required to return to an
unfavorable high school environment.
Personal responsibility and respect for others is implemented
through our Christian Character Qualities. As each student
learns these qualities they start to develop a genuine concern
and respect for others. Obedience, respect for those in
authority, and Christ like compassion are the core values we
instill in our students.
